‘Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi’ is an ideal companion for seafood dishes. Its freshness and structure make it perfect for accompanying fish appetisers, including raw seafood, which find a perfect counterpoint in the wine’s minerality. It excels in pairing with fish and seafood first courses, where its acidity balances savouriness and fattiness.
It is particularly successful when paired with grilled and roasted mixed fish, where the mineral notes of Verdicchio enhance the flavours of the sea without overpowering them. Its versatility is also expressed with white meats, finding a perfect traditional pairing in rabbit, with the structure of the wine supporting the delicacy of the meat.
Its ability to adapt to both elaborate seafood dishes and more delicate land-based dishes makes Verdicchio a wine of great gastronomic versatility.
Features
Verdicchio is one of the ampelographic treasures of the Marche region, a white grape variety grown almost exclusively in this region, with a particular vocation in the prestigious ‘Castelli di Jesi’ area. It is a remarkably versatile grape variety, capable of producing both fresh, ready-to-drink wines and structured wines with great longevity.
Its name reflects its nature: it derives from the characteristic colour of the grape, which retains evident green hues even when fully ripe, a feature that makes it immediately recognisable. The historical roots of this grape variety run deep in the Marche region.
The first evidence of its cultivation dates back to the 16th century, reflecting a winemaking tradition that has been perfected over the centuries, making Verdicchio one of the most representative wines of the Marche region.
Sensory Notes
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi produces grapes of the highest quality, which give rise to wines characterised by great structure, good acidity and high alcohol content. It has an attractive pale straw yellow colour, clear and bright, which anticipates the finesse of the wine.
It offers a wide range of floral and fruity aromas with a delicate and characteristic scent. Marked mineral notes often emerge, reflecting the calcareous nature of the ‘Castelli di Jesi’ soils, creating a complex and distinctive bouquet. On the palate, it is dry and harmonious, with a perfect balance between freshness and structure.
The finish is characterised by a pleasantly bitter aftertaste, a distinctive signature that gives it personality and persistence, inviting you to take another sip. This combination of characteristics makes ‘Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi’ a wine that best expresses its territory of origin, offering a complete sensory experience that combines elegance, structure and territoriality.
